Crop insurance can be confusing and time consuming. Our job is to help you provide the right risk management tool your client's need and in the most timely means possible.

Who is CIS?

  • Crop Insurance Services (CIS) is a General Agency located in Southern Minnesota. Since 1985, its founder, Greg Wheelock, has been helping agents, bankers, and others just like you service the crop insurance needs of their farm clients. We work with "agencies" of all sizes…from those starting with no policies to those with policies generating over a million dollars in premium. We are currently licensed in IA, IL, MN, ND, SD, and WI...but aren't restricted geographically.
  • We are experts in crop insurance. This is all we do and we do it well. Trust us!

What does an association with CIS mean to you?

  • By focusing solely on crop insurance, CIS knows the details, rules, and regulations of very complicated government policies and can recommend which coverage is best for your client's risk management program.

  • CIS has a full staff that works with or for you to gather all the information needed to establish a policy and set it up to best benefit your client's farming operation. CIS is able to learn more about an operation to ensure that the policy is set up properly, with the correct unit structure, making sure the insured is getting all of the discounts he/she is entitled to. After all, if a policy isn't set up correctly, what good is it? Our mapping service plays a key role in servicing a policy.

  • CIS can show you and your client's how (higher levels) of revenue-based crop insurance policies can be a money making risk management tool when combined with the marketing of crops. It is probably the only crop insurance policy that will help farmers make more money, rather than be just another expense.

  • CIS utilizes its own mapping program (AgriMaps) and prints color maps of your client's farming operation each year. The maps help both you and CIS better understand an insured's operation and also allows the farmer to better understand his/her policy and the unit structure of their policy. The maps also have an area for farmers to record data about the crop…such as dates, tillage, planting, spraying, and production information. Click here to see sample maps.

  • Over the years, CIS has established beneficial, professional relationships within the crop insurance industry, and CIS is recognized for their integrity and crop insurance experience. Let CIS use our networking connections and expertise to your benefit! In short, we have the size and clout to sometimes get things done (such as faster claims payment) than other agencies may have the ability to do.

  • Conducts informational group meetings
  • Meets one-on-one with client at your office, or with you at their farm.
  • Explains coverage, cost, and insured perils
  • Recommends best coverage for farmer’s risk tolerance and marketing plan
  • Completes the application and obtains farmer’s yield history
  • Sends out and collects all required forms and information
  • Enters, prints and issues schedule of insurance.
  • Direct billing and collection of premium
  • Ensures indemnity payment is correct
  • Trains you in the basics of crop insurance and its terminology.
  • Serves as your crop insurance expert
  • Provides free GPS field maps for clients!
